A Message from the Conference Chairs
On behalf of the International Network for Acid Prevention (INAP) and the entire organizing committee, it is a pleasure to invite you to the 14th International Conference on Acid Rock Drainage (ICARD). ICARD 2027 will take place in Vancouver, British Columbia, October 30 to November 4, 2027. Vancouver is located on the traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, on the West coast of Canada. ICARD, held every three years, has become the world’s leading series of conferences on acid and metalliferous drainage (AMD) and in 2027, the ICARD community and the successful BC MEND ML/ARD Annual Workshop will combine their efforts at this unique event to present a program to discuss real issues and provide innovative solutions around AMD and its impact on the environment. ICARD is well known for providing the platform for the mining industry, consultants, researchers, technology developers and suppliers, regulators, community and NGOs to communicate their perspectives. Supported by C3 Alliance, INAP and the BC MEND committee, we are planning an extensive technical event, with daily invited keynotes, short courses, field trips, trade exhibits, poster session, student program, numerous networking opportunities, a social and tourist program, and an exciting conference banquet. Sessions are planned that will cover topics such as geochemical characteristics and prediction, source management, waste management planning, drainage treatment, numerical modelling and monitoring, and governance. The theme of ICARD 2027 is “It's About Time” because the need to manage reactive mine wastes extends far beyond the timeframe of their initial exposure. The theme is also a challenge to our industry – we have the predictive tools and management options to not have AMD/ARD become massive burdens for mines, communities, and our society. It is “about time” that we demonstrated we are meeting that challenge! We look forward to welcoming the international community to Vancouver, British Columbia, a city with its striking natural setting, vibrant food and culture scene, and ease of access. Vancouver provides an inspiring and memorable host city for ICARD 2027. See you in Vancouver in 2027!.
